Silhouette Stamp Illusion Card with Heat Embossed Design

Create a striking card featuring a heat-embossed floral design on coloured card stock, layered with hand-coloured silhouette elements and decorative circles to create an optical illusion that makes the design appear connected when it isn't. The technique combines heat embossing, ink blending, pen work, and dimensional layering for a sophisticated, multi-textured finish.

Pas à pas

1. Stamp the full flower design onto purple card stock using a sticky ink pad. ▶ watch 9:00
2. Stamp the three circles from the flower design onto black card stock using the same sticky ink pad. ▶ watch 9:15
3. Heat set both the purple card with the flower and the black card with the circles using a heat gun. ▶ watch 13:00
4. Cut out the three gold circles from the purple card freehand with scissors, or use a circle die if you have one. ▶ watch 15:00
5. Outline the edges of the heat-embossed black image on white card stock using a black watercolour pen or marker to create a drop shadow effect. ▶ watch 20:30
6. Layer the outlined black image onto a piece of purple card stock to make the design pop. ▶ watch 23:00
7. Apply colour washes to the purple card base using oxide inks in purple, faded jeans, and black, blending them together. ▶ watch 23:15
8. Spritz the inked background with water to soften any harsh lines and blend the colours further. ▶ watch 27:30
9. Stamp the flower design in black ink onto the coloured and inked purple card stock. ▶ watch 29:45
10. Use a black pen to outline and fill in the stamped flower to create a solid silhouette, leaving the branches and fine lines unfilled. ▶ watch 31:00
11. Fill in the silhouette outline with a black brush pen, being careful to maintain the fine details. ▶ watch 33:00
12. Wrap twine around the card a couple of times and secure with adhesive pads. ▶ watch 37:00
13. Create a double bow with twine and attach it to the card using adhesive pads. ▶ watch 38:00
14. Position the three gold circles behind the silhouette design to create the illusion that they are part of the original stamp. ▶ watch 39:15
15. Add white gel pen highlights around the top stamped design to bring it forward and add dimension. ▶ watch 41:30
16. Add white gel pen highlights to the black silhouette at the back to create shadow stamping effect. ▶ watch 42:15

Astuces de l'émission

• If you have a circle die, use it for neat circles; if not, cutting freehand still works well.
• Using coloured card stock as your base saves time and energy compared to doing a full ombre background.
• White gel pen highlights bring artwork forward and add dimension, so don't be afraid to use them generously.
