Striped Stencil Background with Ombre Ink Technique

A simple background technique using the sailor stripe stencil with two complementary ink colours applied in layers. You create an ombre effect by moving the stencil down slightly and adding a darker shade, building depth and visual interest without covering the entire stencil.

Pas à pas

1. Secure the sailor stripe stencil to your card base using the paste tape or magnets, ensuring it is held firmly in place. ▶ watch 20:15
2. Using a fine brush and ink pad, apply the first colour (pale pink) halfway across the stencil, working through the stripes. ▶ watch 20:45
3. Move the stencil down slightly, aligning it carefully with the stripes you have already created underneath. ▶ watch 22:30
4. Apply a complementary darker colour (such as a deeper pink or purple) through the stencil, again only halfway across to create the ombre effect. ▶ watch 22:45
5. Remove the stencil carefully and allow the ink to dry completely. ▶ watch 23:00
6. View the finished background, which now shows a gradient effect with the stripes creating a sophisticated layered look. ▶ watch 23:15

Astuces de l'émission

• Do not apply the stencil tape to a glass surface; use a wooden craft desk instead.
• You do not need to use the entire stencil—add colour as small accents rather than covering the whole design.
• Stencils can be used in multiple ways: embossed, run through machines, stamped through, or layered with texture paste.
