An expressive watercolour card using wet-and-wet technique with hand-blown paint splatters created with a straw. The design features a masked rectangular frame with loose, artistic floral imagery in blues and purples, mounted on black cardstock.
Stamp a rectangular frame outline on copy paper using waterproof ink to create a mask.
Die-cut the mask using the coordinating die.
Position the mask on your watercolour card at an angle, leaving space for a sentiment.
Stamp the floral image over the mask using waterproof black ink.
Wet the cardstock thoroughly with clean water using a brush, focusing on sections within the frame.
Drop dark blue and purple watercolour into the wet areas, allowing the colour to bloom and spread naturally.
Reactivate the wet areas by adding more water and intensifying the colour with additional pigment.
Use a clean, damp brush to blend harsh edges by working from the outside inward.
Load a brush with watery watercolour and flick paint across the card in multiple directions using a splat technique.
Use a straw to blow watery watercolour paint at an angle, creating organic paint lines that radiate from the centre.
Add light watercolour washes over the stamped flowers to suggest shadows and depth, following the natural contours of the petals.
Stamp a sentiment (such as 'Congratulations') in black ink at the bottom of the card.
Mount the finished card onto black cardstock, leaving a quarter-inch border.
