Textured Paste Stencilled Background

Use textured paste through a stencil to create dimensional backgrounds with various textures including flaky, beads, crackle, and sand effects. The paste dries quickly and can be enhanced with sprays and inks.

Step by step

1. Squeeze textured paste onto a spatula or directly onto a stencil. ▶ watch 28:00
2. Place the stencil on cardstock. ▶ watch 28:15
3. Scrape the paste through the stencil using a palette knife or scraper tool. ▶ watch 28:30
4. Remove the stencil carefully to reveal the textured design. ▶ watch 28:45
5. Allow the paste to dry (approximately 4 minutes). ▶ watch 29:00
6. Optional: spray ink over the dried textured paste for added colour. ▶ watch 29:30
7. Optional: apply embossing powder to the still-wet paste for extra dimension. ▶ watch 29:45

Tips from the show

• Textured paste dries quickly, so work fast when scraping through stencils.
• The die itself acts as a stencil when used this way, creating both a design and a background simultaneously.
