Oriental Wave Aperture Card with Floral Spray

A project from our live show BRAND SHOWCASE - Join Sarah Gray from Funky Fossil - broadcast 8th April · 08/04/2022 · watch it from 16:45

A striking card featuring a wave die-cut as the focal point, layered with hand-coloured shibori papers in deep blues and teals. The design uses paper piecing to create depth and includes a delicate floral spray stamped around the circle, creating an elegant oriental-themed card.

Step by step

  1. Cut two circles from the shibori papers using the solid base die - one in a softer blue and one in a darker, inky blue to create a blended effect. ▶ watch 17:15
  2. Spray a piece of blank white card stock with rusty saffron and gold distress spray, then allow it to settle before cutting out small coloured elements for the moon. ▶ watch 17:45
  3. Glue the darker blue circle on top of the lighter blue circle to create the layered wave background. ▶ watch 18:45
  4. Add the hand-coloured moon element to the top of the wave design using glue. ▶ watch 19:00
  5. Use the solid base circle die as a guide and stamp the floral spray around the edges using medieval blue versafine ink, allowing elements to extend off the card edge. ▶ watch 22:00
  6. Add enamel dots in decreasing circles around the focal point to draw the eye inward. ▶ watch 22:45
  7. Mount the completed design onto a card base. ▶ watch 23:15
