A project from our live show BRAND SHOWCASE - Join Sandra Rushton from Sanntangle - Broadcast 8th April · 08/04/2022 · watch it from 33:45

Create a stunning mandala-style circular design by using a circle frame stencil as your structure, then add hand-drawn butterflies and flowers within the frame. The result is a balanced, symmetrical artwork that looks professionally designed.

Step by step

  1. Use the circle frame stencil to mark dots around the outer edge with a pencil, marking only the largest set of dots needed. ▶ watch 34:00
  2. Draw lines connecting the dots by eye or with a ruler to divide the circle into manageable sections. ▶ watch 34:45
  3. Use the butterfly stencil to draw a butterfly body in one section, then flip the stencil to create a symmetrical wing on the opposite side. ▶ watch 36:30
  4. Add tangled bubble patterns and curved lines inside the butterfly wings using a fine liner pen. ▶ watch 38:00
  5. Use the flower stencil to draw flower petals around the circle frame, mixing and matching different petal shapes from the stencil. ▶ watch 40:00
  6. Add curved lines and decorative patterns to the frame sections using a grey fine liner pen, creating a border design. ▶ watch 42:00
  7. Use a tortilla blending stump to soften pencil shading and add subtle depth to the background areas. ▶ watch 45:00
  8. Add colour details with fine liner pens in various colours, using dots and dashes to add hints of colour without fully colouring in areas. ▶ watch 48:00
