Sunset Sunray Card with Layered Depth

A striking sunset-themed card using the Sunray die in multiple layers and colours. The design features a blended ink background with layered sunray die-cuts in coordinating colours, topped with a sentiment stamp for a retro, summery feel.

Step by step

1. Cut the Sunray die from orange cardstock using your die-cutting machine. ▶ watch 46:30
2. Create a blended ink background using distress oxide inks in sunset colours on white cardstock. ▶ watch 47:00
3. Layer the orange Sunray die-cut onto the blended background. ▶ watch 47:30
4. Cut the Sunray die again from a darker shade of orange or red cardstock. ▶ watch 48:00
5. Snip away the outer rays from the darker die-cut, keeping only the inner circle and partial rays. ▶ watch 48:30
6. Layer the darker Sunray piece on top of the first layer, offsetting it slightly to create dimension. ▶ watch 49:00
7. Cut a third layer of the Sunray die from an even darker shade. ▶ watch 49:30
8. Snip away more of the outer rays from this layer, leaving only the innermost rays. ▶ watch 50:00
9. Layer this final piece on top, creating a graduated effect from light to dark. ▶ watch 50:30
10. Stamp or adhere a 'Good Vibes' sentiment die-cut to the centre of the card. ▶ watch 51:00
11. Mount the finished design onto a larger card base. ▶ watch 52:00

Tips from the show

• The Sunray die can be oriented with the circle at the top or bottom to represent sunrise or sunset.
• Changing the colour scheme completely transforms the mood of the card—use cool tones for a different aesthetic.
• You don't need to use every piece of the die-cut; snipping away sections creates new design possibilities with the same die.
