Mixed Media Background Card with Spray and Texture Stamping

A project from our live show CATCH UP with PEARLYWINKS CREATIVE STENCILS LAUNCH in the HTCN studio broadcast 21st Jan 22 · 21/01/2022 · watch it from 52:00

Donna creates a layered, artistic background by spraying ink onto card, letting it dry, then adding random texture stamping with fingers for a messy, creative mixed-media effect. This technique celebrates imperfection and builds depth through layering.

Step by step

  1. Spray your card with the Hint of Gold spray, creating an even golden-brown base layer. ▶ watch 52:00
  2. Allow the sprayed card to dry completely before proceeding. ▶ watch 52:30
  3. Ink up a small texture stamp from the Mix It Up set using a black ink pad. ▶ watch 53:00
  4. Press the inked stamp directly onto your fingers rather than using a block for a random, imprecise effect. ▶ watch 53:15
  5. Dab the stamp randomly across the card, allowing impressions to overlap and build up texture. ▶ watch 53:30
  6. Catch excess ink on a separate sheet of paper to create additional background pieces for future projects. ▶ watch 54:00
  7. Continue layering stamps until you achieve the desired level of texture and visual interest. ▶ watch 54:45
  8. Once dry, use this textured background as the base for mounting focal point elements. ▶ watch 55:00
