Step by step

  1. Cut two pieces of card to the same size, for example 8 by 8 inches. ▶ watch 13:30
  2. From one piece, cut a tiny sliver off the top edge and a tiny sliver off one side edge only—do not cut all four sides or the box will be baggy. ▶ watch 14:15
  3. Score the smaller piece 1 inch in from all four edges to create fold lines. ▶ watch 15:00
  4. Score the larger piece 1 inch in from all four edges in the same way. ▶ watch 15:15
  5. Cut along one straight score line from the corner, then cut from the corner of the box inward to create hinges at each corner. ▶ watch 16:00
  6. Remove the top point at each corner by trimming away the tip to ensure the sides sit flush. ▶ watch 16:30
  7. Glue or tape the four side flaps together, starting with the cleanest side facing outward. ▶ watch 19:00
  8. Assemble the second piece in the same way to create the matching lid or base. ▶ watch 22:30
