Embossed Donut Card with Alcohol Marker Shading

Create a sophisticated card featuring an embossed donut character with tonal shading using alcohol markers and white highlights. The technique combines black embossing powder with gray card stock and layered colouring to achieve a chalky, dimensional effect.

Step by step

  1. Pre-cut a donut shape from gray card stock and position it on your card base. ▶ watch 1:00:15
  2. Stamp the donut character onto the gray card using black ink and the Yum Chums stamp set. ▶ watch 1:00:30
  3. Apply black embossing powder over the stamped image and heat it to create a glossy embossed effect. ▶ watch 1:00:45
  4. Use two shades of gray alcohol markers to colour around the icing areas, creating shadow and depth. ▶ watch 1:01:30
  5. Apply a blender pen over the gray colouring to soften the transitions and create lighter areas. ▶ watch 1:03:45
  6. Use a red alcohol marker to pick out the sprinkles on the donut for colour accent. ▶ watch 1:04:30
  7. Use a white pencil or crayon to add highlights to the donut, particularly on the unglazed areas. ▶ watch 1:07:15
  8. Add a shadow in the centre of the donut using the darker gray marker. ▶ watch 1:07:45
  9. Stamp a sentiment at the top of the card. ▶ watch 1:10:00
  10. Apply clear stickles or sparkle to the sprinkles to make them pop. ▶ watch 1:10:15
