Textured Timber Embossed Background Card with Embossing Powder

A mixed-media card featuring a timber-textured embossed background enhanced with russet and argent embossing powders for a distressed, aged look. The card combines dimensional embossing with sparkly powder accents and a fussy-cut vintage-style lady image with a sentiment.

Step by step

  1. Cut a piece of craft-coloured card stock in half to create your card base. ▶ watch 21:30
  2. Lightly spray your card stock with water to soften the fibres and prevent cracking when embossing. ▶ watch 22:15
  3. Run the timber embossing folder through your die-cutting machine with the card stock, using either emboss or deboss side. ▶ watch 23:45
  4. Trim the embossed card to a smaller size suitable for your card design. ▶ watch 24:30
  5. Apply a sticky ink pad randomly across the embossed surface to create texture. ▶ watch 26:45
  6. Tap russet embossing powder onto the raised areas of the embossed card in random spots. ▶ watch 27:00
  7. Apply argent (silver and gold mix) embossing powder to other areas, layering over some russet areas for variation. ▶ watch 28:00
  8. Heat-set all the embossing powder with a heat gun, keeping the gun moving to avoid warping the card. ▶ watch 30:00
  9. Distress the edges of the embossed background piece with a black ink pad to prevent it from floating on the final card. ▶ watch 32:00
  10. Fussy-cut a large vintage lady image from the Steal My Heart paper collection, moving the paper rather than the scissors. ▶ watch 33:30
  11. Stamp a sentiment such as 'Dream Big Darling' onto patterned paper using black ink. ▶ watch 37:30
  12. Trim the stamped sentiment into a rectangle and distress its edges with black ink pad. ▶ watch 39:30
  13. Adhere the embossed background piece to a craft-coloured card blank using glue. ▶ watch 40:30
  14. Attach the stamped sentiment rectangle to the card with glue, creating a slight arch by lifting one end slightly. ▶ watch 41:00
  15. Apply 2mm foam pads to the back of the fussy-cut lady image. ▶ watch 43:00
  16. Adhere the lady image to the card with foam pads, positioning her over the sentiment and background. ▶ watch 44:00
