Heat Embossed Floral Card with WOW Powder

A striking black card featuring heat-embossed floral designs using WOW embossing powders. The project demonstrates the heat embossing technique with multiple powder colours to create dimensional, sparkly details on card stock.

Step by step

1. Prepare your black card stock by wiping it with an anti-static bag to remove moisture, fingerprints and dust. ▶ watch 40:45
2. Tap your floral stamp face-down onto a sticky ink pad (such as VersaMark) to coat all the stamp details evenly. ▶ watch 41:15
3. Press the inked stamp firmly onto the black card stock, pushing down to transfer the sticky ink impression. ▶ watch 42:15
4. Immediately pour your chosen WOW embossing powder over the stamped image to cover the entire design. ▶ watch 45:00
5. Shuffle the card gently to distribute the powder evenly across the stamped area. ▶ watch 45:15
6. Use an anti-static bag to tap away excess powder, pushing it away from areas without sticky ink to create crisp edges. ▶ watch 45:30
7. Turn on your heat embossing gun and allow it to reach full temperature before applying heat. ▶ watch 46:15
8. Hold the heat gun a short distance from the card and move it across the embossed area until the powder melts and sets, watching for the powder to change appearance as it fuses to the card. ▶ watch 57:30
9. Allow the card to cool completely before handling to set the embossed design permanently. ▶ watch 58:45

Tips from the show

• Get your heat gun hot as possible first; less time on the card means less cockle, lumps and bumps in the finished piece.
• Use an anti-static bag before stamping to prepare your card stock and improve the crispness of your embossing.
• Once powder is on the stamped image, it does not matter when you heat set it—you can leave it sitting and heat set it later.
