Oval Floating Window Card with Fairy Detail

Create a layered card with a floating window effect using nested oval dies. The centre element appears to float on acetate or vellum behind a decorative frame, with optional embellishments like baubles or flowers creating depth and visual interest.

Step by step

1. Cut the largest oval die from cardstock to create your outer frame. ▶ watch 38:45
2. Cut the second-size oval from cardstock to use as your middle layer. ▶ watch 39:00
3. Cut the third-size oval from acetate or vellum to create a transparent window effect. ▶ watch 39:15
4. Layer the acetate or vellum between the two cardstock ovals using adhesive pads. ▶ watch 39:30
5. Cut a smaller oval from your patterned paper to sit in the centre as a floating element. ▶ watch 39:45
6. Adhere the centre element to the acetate using pads so it appears to float. ▶ watch 40:00
7. Add embellishments such as baubles, flowers or a banner across the centre if desired. ▶ watch 40:15
8. Mount the completed oval design onto your card base. ▶ watch 40:30

Tips from the show

• The detail on the oval dies is embossed on both the exterior and the interior cutout, giving you two decorated elements from one die.
• Using acetate or vellum behind the window creates the illusion that elements are floating in fresh air.
• You can decorate the floating centre element with additional details like holly, berries or small baubles.
