A project from our live show CATCH UP with Toni for TECHNIQUE TUESDAY 28th Sept 21 · 28/09/2021

A stunning shaker card featuring a lily cluster stamp coloured with sparkle pens and watercolour technique, mounted behind a cellophane window filled with iridescent sequins. The design creates a floating effect with the sequins visible through the clear sleeve, giving a dynamic, shimmering finish.

  1. 1

Take a 5x7 piece of white card and a smaller piece. Secure the smaller piece in the centre of the larger piece using temporary tape, positioning it so the stamp will print half on each piece.

    ▶ watch this step 2:45
  2. 2

Ink up the lily cluster stamp with Versafine waterproof ink and stamp across both pieces of card, pressing down firmly on the recesses to ensure good detail transfer.

    ▶ watch this step 3:15
  3. 3

Stamp the image again with a different ink colour to create variation across the design.

    ▶ watch this step 4:00
  4. 4

Carefully separate the two pieces of card to reveal the split design.

  5. 5

Place the smaller stamped piece on your mat. Squeeze sparkle pen colour onto the mat and dilute it with a clear sparkle pen to create lighter, more manageable tones.

  6. 6

Paint the flower centres with diluted pink sparkle pen, adding darker shades in the centre for depth and dimension.

    ▶ watch this step 6:00
  7. 7

Colour the leaves and remaining petals with green and yellow sparkle pens, using light washes first then adding darker tones for shading.

    ▶ watch this step 8:30
  8. 8

Mount the coloured piece onto a black card mat, then mount that onto another mat layer to create dimension.

  9. 9

Cut a cellophane sleeve from a stamp bag using a guillotine, creating a window approximately the size of your coloured design.

    ▶ watch this step 16:45
  10. 10

Adhere the cellophane sleeve to the back of the mounted design using tape on three sides (top, left, and right), mitering the corners for a neat finish.

    ▶ watch this step 17:45
  11. 11

Open the card and pour iridescent and latte-coloured sequins into the cellophane pocket, distributing them evenly across the front.

    ▶ watch this step 20:00
  12. 12

Fold the cellophane over the sequins and seal the bottom edge with tape, wrapping it tightly like a present and tucking in the corners for a neat appearance.

    ▶ watch this step 21:45
  13. 13

Apply foam pads across the back of the sealed shaker element to secure it to the card base, ensuring the design is protected and the shaker moves freely.

    ▶ watch this step 23:00
  14. 14

Stamp or adhere a sentiment to the front of the card to complete the design.

    ▶ watch this step 25:00
