Layered Stencil Bird Card with Shaped Die-Cut

Create a dimensional bird card using layered stencils and coordinating die-cuts. This project builds up colour through multiple stencil layers, then adds a detailed overlay die to create a striking 3D effect on a shaped card blank.

Step by step

  1. Gather all six stencils from the Spread Your Wings set and lay them out in numerical order. ▶ watch 1:00:15
  2. Follow the stencil numbers sequentially, applying ink pad colours through each stencil layer onto your card base. ▶ watch 1:00:30
  3. Use the large detailed die to cut out the bird, flower and leaves from your stencilled piece. ▶ watch 1:00:45
  4. Place the outline die around your stencilled design and cut to create a shaped card edge. ▶ watch 1:01:00
  5. Take the detailed overlay die and cut it from black or contrasting cardstock to add definition. ▶ watch 1:01:15
  6. Layer the black detailed die-cut on top of your stencilled bird piece to create the 3D pop effect. ▶ watch 1:01:30
  7. Take a card blank and position the outline die so it cuts only the bottom edge, creating a hinge. ▶ watch 1:01:45
  8. Adhere your complete shaped bird piece to the back of the card blank so it aligns seamlessly at the front. ▶ watch 1:02:00
  9. Mount your finished die-cut bird design on top of the card to complete the layered effect. ▶ watch 1:02:15
