Watercoloured Lady with Floral Silhouette Card

A landscape-format card featuring the 'Anything' stamp from the Imala collection, with hand-painted watercolour skin tones and floral details, layered with a second-generation stamped sentiment and black ink edge blending for an artistic, contemporary look.

Step by step

1. Fold a card blank landscape and stamp the 'Anything' lady stamp down the side in black ink. ▶ watch 43:45
2. Cut around the lady's outline with scissors, leaving a small white border, to create a shaped card edge. ▶ watch 51:30
3. Stamp the floral element using no-line ink to create a watermark effect that follows the lady's body shape. ▶ watch 53:00
4. Paint the lady's skin tone with a light wash of yellow-toned watercolour, leaving white space on the chest and shoulders. ▶ watch 54:00
5. Add a second layer of darker yellow to create shadow and definition under the neck, shoulders and dress hem. ▶ watch 58:30
6. Paint the flowers with a light teal wash, then add darker teal to the petal edges and centres. ▶ watch 59:00
7. Blend black distress ink around the outer edges of the card with a blending brush for a smokey effect. ▶ watch 1:02:00
8. Stamp the sentiment 'If you believe in yourself, anything is possible' in black ink on white card. ▶ watch 1:06:00
9. Create a second-generation stamp by stamping the lady and stripes again on the sentiment backing card in lighter ink. ▶ watch 1:07:30
10. Cut the sentiment backing into a rectangular mat and layer it onto the main card so the sentiment sits over the floral area. ▶ watch 1:10:30

Tips from the show

• Leave white space when watercolouring to create instant light and shade that looks intentional and artistic.
• Use second-generation stamping (stamping without re-inking) to create coordinating background details that match your main design.
• Don't try to blend skin tones evenly; instead use three distinct layers of colour to create natural shadow and definition.
