Layered Magnolia Floral Card with Ink Blending

Create a beautiful layered card using the Magnolia Dreams stencil and die set with ink blending techniques. This project demonstrates how to build up colour through multiple stencil layers to create depth and dimension, resulting in a soft, artistic floral design.

Step by step

1. Line up the first stencil (number one) with the edge of your card stock. ▶ watch 27:15
2. Apply Heather ink colour using a blending brush, starting from the edge and working outward. ▶ watch 27:30
3. Blend a darker shade on the exterior edges to create dimension. ▶ watch 28:00
4. Remove the first stencil and repeat the process with the second stencil (number two) using Fandango ink. ▶ watch 28:30
5. Apply the third stencil layer using teal ink, building up the colour gradually. ▶ watch 29:00
6. Apply the detail stencil with purple ink to add background depth and texture. ▶ watch 30:00
7. Die-cut the stencilled design using the coordinating die to create clean edges. ▶ watch 39:30
8. Create a drop shadow effect by cutting a second die-cut from grey card stock. ▶ watch 42:00
9. Layer the white die-cut on top of the grey die-cut, offsetting slightly to show the shadow. ▶ watch 50:15
10. Adhere the layered flower design to your card base using foam pads for dimension. ▶ watch 52:30
11. Use the stencil to add light touches of teal ink to any white spaces to balance the design. ▶ watch 59:00
12. Adhere the sentiment die-cut to complete the card. ▶ watch 1:01:30

Tips from the show

• You can use the die as a standalone piece and colour it in, then layer another die-cut on top to hide your workings.
• Cut from corner to corner on the mat layer to create a subtle gap rather than a full mat and layer effect.
• Use foam pads in corners only if you want the same level as the base, rather than raising the entire piece.
