Watercoloured Embossed Peony Card with Layered Detail

A project from our live show MY PODCAST - Catch my latest updates broadcast 16th December 2024 · 16/12/2024 · watch it from 37:30

Create a beautiful card using an embossing folder to add texture, then bring it to life with watercolour techniques. You'll ink the folder, spray with water, and paint the embossed flowers with layered colour to create depth and dimension.

Step by step

  1. Position your patterned paper from the Wildflower Sunset collection into the slimline peonies embossing folder, aligning it near the top. ▶ watch 37:45
  2. Run the paper through your A4 die-cutting and embossing machine with one clear plate and one pink plate to emboss the design. ▶ watch 40:45
  3. Ink up both sides of the embossing folder using a distress oxide ink pad in a colour of your choice, such as faded jeans. ▶ watch 42:45
  4. Spray your white card stock lightly with water to prepare it for the watercolour technique. ▶ watch 47:15
  5. Place the inked embossing folder onto the wet card and run it through the machine to transfer the ink design. ▶ watch 48:00
  6. Wet each flower individually with clean water using a brush, then drop pink, yellow and green ink onto the wet areas to create a watercoloured effect. ▶ watch 50:00
  7. Allow the ink to flow naturally with the water; add darker tones by dropping more colour into still-wet areas for depth. ▶ watch 53:00
  8. Once the card is dry, re-ink the embossing folder and run it through the machine again to bring back the embossed detail over the watercoloured design. ▶ watch 58:00
  9. Trim the card edges neatly, preserving the chamfered edge created by the embossing folder. ▶ watch 1:02:30
  10. Add a sentiment or embellishment to complete your card. ▶ watch 1:05:00
