Monochromatic Tone-on-Tone Card

A project from our live show CRAFT BATTLE USING THE BOOKAZINE - Join the fun, chaos and intense creativity as Toni and Sarah go HEAD-TO-HEAD - broadcast 30th May 24 · 30/05/2024 · watch it from 1:02:00

Make a sophisticated monochromatic card that showcases the beauty of working within a single colour palette. Using grey tones on white cardstock, you'll layer stamped heart motifs to create depth and dimension without colour variation. This elegant, minimalist design demonstrates how restraint in colour can produce striking results.

Step by step

  1. Select a single colour to work with for your monochromatic card. Gather all your materials in that colour family, including cardstock, stamps, and embellishments in various shades and tones of your chosen colour. ▶ watch 1:02:15
  2. Select your card base in your chosen colour. This will form the foundation of your monochromatic card design. ▶ watch 1:02:45
  3. Stamp your chosen design onto the card base using the same colour ink as your card. Position the stamp carefully to create a tone-on-tone effect. ▶ watch 1:03:00
  4. Layer additional stamping at different intensities to create depth. Use the same stamp with varying pressure or ink coverage to build up tonal variations on your white panel. This creates visual interest through subtle differences in the darkness of each stamped impression. ▶ watch 1:03:30
  5. Layer different tones of your chosen colour to create depth and visual interest. Stamp the tree line image in a darker shade at the top of your pink card panel, then add lighter pink elements below to build a tonal composition. ▶ watch 1:04:00
  6. Add a sentiment stamp or sticker in the same colour family to complete your monochromatic card design. Position it on your card front to complement the focal image. ▶ watch 1:04:30
  7. Review your finished card to ensure all stamped elements, including the trees and any embellishments, are in tones of your chosen colour scheme for a cohesive monochromatic effect. ▶ watch 1:05:00
