Step by step

  1. Select two card backing sheets from your stash in contrasting colours—one darker and one lighter. ▶ watch 19:30
  2. Cut a rectangular window out of the front card using scissors, following a white guideline if available. ▶ watch 21:30
  3. Enlarge the window opening slightly by making small cuts at each corner with scissors or a trimmer blade. ▶ watch 23:00
  4. Use a dark-coloured brush to colour in the white edges around your cut window to hide any harsh lines. ▶ watch 24:00
  5. Fussy cut the house character from the kit papers, cutting carefully around the outline. ▶ watch 27:00
  6. Fussy cut additional characters—a ghost and a girl—from the kit, removing any unwanted drips or details with scissors. ▶ watch 30:00
  7. Cut a clear plastic bag (from the kit packaging) to size and trim away the top and bottom flaps to create a shaker window. ▶ watch 34:30
  8. Apply double-sided tape or foam pads all the way around the back of your card window, ensuring no gaps remain. ▶ watch 37:00
  9. Adhere the plastic bag window to the taped foam pads, smoothing it down carefully to avoid lumps and bubbles. ▶ watch 39:30
  10. Place the fussy-cut house card flat inside the window as your background layer. ▶ watch 43:00
  11. Apply foam pads to the back of the fussy-cut characters and adhere them inside the window, positioning them at different heights. ▶ watch 45:30
  12. Scatter sequins around the inside of the window—use a moderate amount so the card shakes freely without being too sparse. ▶ watch 47:00
  13. Remove the backing from all foam pads and press the window assembly firmly onto the front card, massaging it into place. ▶ watch 49:30
  14. Adhere a sentiment topper with foam pads to raise it above the card surface for added dimension. ▶ watch 51:00
