Floating Heart Vellum Card

A sophisticated card using the Lots of Love heart cover plate with a vellum centre layer that creates a floating, transparent effect. The design combines a coloured card blank with a soft vellum heart cutout and complementary butterfly embellishment.

Step by step

1. Take a square card blank in your chosen colour (such as teal or pink). ▶ watch 44:45
2. Cut out the centre section of the card using a guillotine or craft knife to create a window. ▶ watch 45:00
3. Run vellum through the Lots of Love heart die to cut out the heart backing plate. ▶ watch 45:30
4. Position the vellum heart die-cut so it sits behind the window you created in the card blank. ▶ watch 46:00
5. Secure the vellum layer with tape on both sides of the card to hold it in place. ▶ watch 46:30
6. Cut a butterfly from previously die-cut elements or stamp and cut a new one. ▶ watch 47:00
7. Mount the butterfly onto gold card stock for added dimension. ▶ watch 47:30
8. Stamp a sentiment such as 'Once Upon a Fairy Tale' onto the card. ▶ watch 48:00
9. Position the butterfly over the sentiment to hide any imperfections and complete the design. ▶ watch 48:30

Tips from the show

• The vellum centre creates a soft, transparent floating effect that looks elegant and sophisticated.
• You can paper piece some of the hearts back in if you want to add more colour to the design.
• Folding the hearts in half allows you to create raised butterfly elements for extra dimension.
