Flutterby Cover Plate Card with Layered Butterflies

Create an elegant card using the Flutterby die to cut butterflies from patterned paper. The butterflies layer on top of a white background with gold accents, creating a 3D effect that makes the butterflies appear to burst from the page.

Step by step

1. Run the Flutterby die through your cutting machine with patterned paper to cut out the butterfly design. ▶ watch 19:30
2. Pop out all the butterfly elements from the die-cut, keeping both the individual butterflies and the background layer. ▶ watch 20:15
3. Glue the patterned paper butterfly background onto a white card base using tape or glue. ▶ watch 21:15
4. Layer the individual cut-out butterflies on top of the background using foam pads or glue to create dimension. ▶ watch 25:30
5. Add gold paper-pieced butterflies on top for extra colour and interest. ▶ watch 26:00
6. Apply colourless glitter to the butterfly wings for a glass-like shimmer effect. ▶ watch 26:45
7. Add a sentiment stamp such as 'Enjoy your day' to the side of the card. ▶ watch 27:45
8. Fold the card and view from the side to see the 3D butterfly effect bursting from the page. ▶ watch 28:15

Tips from the show

• You can cut the design smaller by trimming away some of the butterflies with scissors if you prefer a smaller focal point.
• Don't waste the exterior die-cut pieces; use them as decorative elements on the inside of the card.
• The mat and layer built into the design means you can create shaped cards, edge cards, or place the design on envelopes without needing special techniques.
