Embossed Tree Card with Layered Ink Technique

A project from our live show MONDAY PODCAST - Join me for my latest Crafty News and Product Releases - Broadcast 27th NOV 2023 · 27/11/2023 · watch it from 37:30

Create a beautiful card featuring an embossed tree design with a multi-layered ink technique. By inking the embossing folder in black, adding touches of pink, and highlighting with white ink, you achieve a dimensional snowy tree effect that appears part of the printed design until touched.

Step by step

  1. Select the Summer Tree embossing folder (the full, leafy tree design). ▶ watch 40:30
  2. Tap the embossing folder lightly with black ink pad to create a subtle base layer on the tree. ▶ watch 42:45
  3. Add touches of pink ink to scattered areas of the tree design to introduce colour variation. ▶ watch 43:30
  4. Allow the inks to dry slightly, then use a tissue to gently push back any excess ink if needed. ▶ watch 44:00
  5. Tap white pigment ink over the tree design to push the darker colours back and create a snowy, dimensional effect. ▶ watch 45:00
  6. Blend the white ink by tapping gently; avoid over-applying to retain detail in the tree. ▶ watch 45:30
  7. Edge the card blank with black ink pad, tilting it slightly for darker coverage. ▶ watch 49:00
  8. Glue the embossed panel onto a craft-coloured card blank. ▶ watch 49:30
  9. Add a sentiment or leave as a statement piece; the layered inks create a complete design. ▶ watch 49:45
