Interactive Sunflower Pocket Mini Album

Create a charming mini album with shaped sunflower pockets using an embossing folder. This project features interactive pages with hinged flaps and decorative pockets, perfect for gifting with photos, tags or small mementos inside.

Step by step

1. Cut two pieces of white card stock and position your 5x7 embossing folder flush to one edge, leaving a small hinge of approximately one inch at the opposite edge. ▶ watch 6:30
2. Run the white card through your embossing machine with the folder to create the sunflower detail. ▶ watch 7:00
3. Trim the embossed card pieces so the edges are flush and neat, then score along the hinge line with an embossing tool to create a clean fold. ▶ watch 7:45
4. Fold the embossed pieces along the scored hinge line to create hinged flaps. ▶ watch 8:30
5. Take two 7x7 inch card blanks and glue one embossed piece to the back of the other to create the album structure with pockets. ▶ watch 14:00
6. Cut patterned paper pieces slightly smaller than your card blanks and glue them inside to line the pages, ensuring they don't interfere with fold lines. ▶ watch 15:30
7. Create a front cover by gluing patterned paper to the front card blank, positioning it to showcase the embossed sunflower detail. ▶ watch 20:30
8. Fussy cut decorative elements from your patterned paper, such as flowers or leaves, and layer them on top of the embossed sunflower for added dimension. ▶ watch 26:00
9. Create a belly band by cutting white card stock to approximately 1.5 inches wide and gluing the ends together at the back of the album. ▶ watch 42:45
10. Glue patterned paper to the back cover and add a decorative element to the belly band, such as a fussy-cut flower or embellishment. ▶ watch 47:45

Tips from the show

• Use paper from your existing stash rather than buying new; papers from several years ago work perfectly for this project.
• Always construct all flaps and folds before decorating, so construction details are hidden by embellishments.
• Make your belly band at the very last moment after filling your album, as the album will expand and the band needs to fit snugly.
