Create decorative corner pockets that slip over the corner of a book page or card. These charming bookmarks double as gift toppers and can be made in various sizes using square paper pieces.

Step by step

Select a square piece of paper from your pad (6×6 or 8×8 depending on desired size). ▶ watch 10:45
Fold the top edge of the paper down and burnish firmly with your finger. ▶ watch 11:00
Take the top left corner and fold it down to meet the top line, then burnish well. ▶ watch 11:15
Repeat with the top right corner, folding it to meet the top line and burnishing. ▶ watch 11:30
Fold both side flaps back down towards the bottom of the paper. ▶ watch 11:45
Bring the bottom point up to meet the top point and burnish the fold. ▶ watch 12:00
Tuck the left flap into the pocket created by the fold, pushing it firmly into the corner. ▶ watch 12:15
Tuck the right flap into the pocket on the other side, ensuring both are secure. ▶ watch 12:30
Glue a decorative brooch or embellishment to the front of the corner pocket. ▶ watch 12:45
Allow glue to dry, then slip the pocket over the corner of a book or card. ▶ watch 13:00

Tips from the show

You can make these in various sizes by using different square paper dimensions (5×5, 6×6, 7×7, 8×8 or even 10×10 for scrapbook pages).
The technique works beautifully on vellum as well as patterned paper.
These make excellent gifts for charity shops or community events, and you can produce many at once.
