Watercolour Cabin Slimline Card

A project from our live show The Instant Artist - Free Workshop - Broadcast 3RD Oct · 02/10/2023 · watch it from 3:30

Create a realistic watercolour cabin scene using the spray and stamp technique. The cabin bleeds beautifully into layered green tones, then a black outline is stamped on top to create depth and definition without any hand-painting.

Step by step

  1. Prepare your Slimline card or white cardstock piece (4 by 8 inches). ▶ watch 4:30
  2. Spot multiple shades of green ink onto the cabin stamp using an acrylic block, varying the tones to create texture. ▶ watch 5:30
  3. Spray the white card twice with water to dampen it evenly. ▶ watch 7:45
  4. Stamp the inked cabin directly onto the wet card near the base, allowing the ink to bleed and create a watercolour effect. ▶ watch 8:00
  5. Set the card aside to dry completely. ▶ watch 9:00
  6. Stamp a sentiment from the set onto a separate piece of card using a dark teal or coordinating ink. ▶ watch 9:15
  7. Once the cabin is dry, ink the cabin stamp in black and stamp it directly on top to create a defined outline and shadow effect. ▶ watch 11:30
  8. Mount the sentiment onto the card and add optional sparkle to the trees for a festive touch. ▶ watch 12:00
  9. Mount the finished piece onto your Slimline card blank or white card base. ▶ watch 12:30
