Layered Embossed Hearts Card with Stencilled Background

Create a stunning mixed-media card featuring layered die-cut hearts with heat-embossed finishes in coordinating colours, combined with stencilled heart backgrounds and a sentiment. The design uses multiple heart sizes to create depth and visual interest with a clean, modern aesthetic.

Step by step

1. Die-cut the detailed heart design from white cardstock four or five times using your die-cutting machine. ▶ watch 9:15
2. Die-cut the Ricochet heart design twice from white cardstock. ▶ watch 14:15
3. Position one of the larger heart die-cuts in the centre of a piece of white cardstock and use it as a stencil. ▶ watch 17:30
4. Blend pink ink through the stencil using a brush, starting at the edges and working darker around the perimeter and centre. ▶ watch 18:15
5. Move the stencil slightly and repeat the process with purple ink for a second heart. ▶ watch 20:00
6. Move the stencil again and blend teal ink through for a third heart. ▶ watch 21:15
7. Ink the three solid die-cut hearts with a Dicky ink pad, ensuring full coverage. ▶ watch 23:00
8. Sprinkle yellow embossing powder over the first inked heart and heat-set with a heat tool. ▶ watch 24:45
9. Sprinkle blue embossing powder (with gold flecks) over the second heart and heat-set. ▶ watch 25:30
10. Sprinkle pink embossing powder over the third heart and heat-set. ▶ watch 26:30
11. Die-cut the word 'Hope' twice from white cardstock and glue the two pieces together for dimension. ▶ watch 29:15
12. Glue the embossed yellow heart onto the blue embossed heart. ▶ watch 32:15
13. Glue the pink embossed heart on top of the layered hearts. ▶ watch 33:15
14. Glue a smaller die-cut heart inside the centre of the layered heart stack for added dimension. ▶ watch 34:30
15. Glue the stencilled heart panel onto your card base. ▶ watch 35:30
16. Trim the edges of the stencilled panel so the design protrudes slightly beyond the card edge. ▶ watch 36:15

Tips from the show

• You can make multiple cards in different colour combinations once you've done it once to avoid creative burnout.
• If you don't have the specific embossing powders shown, mix your own by combining coloured powders with white powder to achieve similar pastel effects.
• Save all the small star die-cuts that drop out during the heart die-cutting process to use as infill embellishments.
