Step by step

  1. Start with a black top-fold card (approximately 6 by 8 inches) and create a slightly smaller mat for a nice border. ▶ watch 1:45
  2. Apply masking tape across the card in diagonal stripes, reducing the tape's stickiness first by pressing it on your arm to avoid tearing the card. ▶ watch 2:15
  3. Position the graffiti monster stencil over the card and apply the first ink colour (hedgerow green) using a larger brush with light pressure for a soft background effect. ▶ watch 3:15
  4. Move the stencil to different areas and apply a darker second colour (indigo purple) using a smaller detail brush to add depth and contrast to the design. ▶ watch 4:45
  5. Carefully peel away all the masking tape to reveal the white stripe areas where you'll place your sentiments. ▶ watch 5:15
  6. Stamp sentiment text (such as 'Surprise', 'Hooray', 'Party Monster', and 'Out of this World') along the white stripes using a stamping block and black ink. ▶ watch 9:30
  7. Use a fine-liner pen to freehand decorative designs (loops, waves, dots, zigzags) under and around each sentiment to make them stand out. ▶ watch 12:00
  8. Mount the decorated panel onto the black card base using wet glue, ensuring an even border all around. ▶ watch 13:30
  9. Stamp a monster character onto card, colour it with brush markers in vibrant colours (pink for horns and hair, green for details), then heat-set. ▶ watch 14:45
  10. Die-cut the coloured monster using the corresponding die from the set, securing it with masking tape before running through the machine. ▶ watch 18:45
  11. Mount the monster character onto the card using foam pads at an angle, then add wobbly eyes of various sizes to the purple stencil areas to create the illusion of additional monsters peeking through. ▶ watch 20:30
