Watercoloured Hot Air Balloon Embossed Card

A vibrant card featuring a hot air balloon embossed on black cardstock, then enhanced with dry brushing and watercolour techniques. The embossed design provides texture that guides your painting and creates a stunning dimensional effect.

Step by step

1. Place black cardstock into the hot air balloon embossing folder ▶ watch 26:00
2. Run the cardstock through your embossing machine to create the raised design ▶ watch 26:15
3. Apply confetti ink pad to various areas of the embossed design using dry brushing technique ▶ watch 27:00
4. Spray the card lightly with water to blend and soften the dry brushed colour ▶ watch 27:30
5. Use a tissue to gently burnish back some of the colour for a blended effect ▶ watch 28:00
6. Add white paint or watercolour to highlight the balloon and create additional dimension ▶ watch 28:30
7. Blend the white highlights with water using a damp brush for a soft, watercoloured finish ▶ watch 29:00

Tips from the show

• The depth of the 3D embossing folder helps guide your brush and prevents mistakes
• You can reactivate watercolour ink with water to blend colours together
• Experiment with different colour combinations on scrap card before committing to your final design
