White Rose on Black Card with Colour Overlay

Create a striking rose design on black card by first establishing a white base layer, then adding colour on top. This technique produces a bold, high-contrast image with vibrant colours that pop against the dark background.

You will need

Step by step

  1. Gather a piece of black card stock and ensure your stencils are completely clean of any previous ink. ▶ watch 45:30
  2. Position stencil number one on the black card, lined up at the edge. ▶ watch 45:45
  3. Ink through stencil number one with white ink pad, covering the entire stencil area to create a white base layer. ▶ watch 46:00
  4. Apply stencil number two and ink through with white ink, building up the white foundation. ▶ watch 46:45
  5. Position stencil number three and ink through with white, ensuring all areas are covered. ▶ watch 47:15
  6. Apply stencil number four (the branches) and ink through with white to complete the white skeleton. ▶ watch 47:45
  7. Apply stencil number five (the leaves) and ink through with white to establish the full white base. ▶ watch 48:15
  8. Once the white base is dry, position stencil number one again and ink through with pink ink pad, tapping gently to apply colour over the white. ▶ watch 49:15
  9. Apply stencil number two and ink through with pink again, pressing slightly harder than the first layer. ▶ watch 51:15
  10. Position stencil number three and ink through with red ink pad to add depth and warmth to the rose petals. ▶ watch 52:15
  11. Apply stencil number four (the leaves) and ink through with green ink pad, tapping gently at first to avoid mixing with the white base. ▶ watch 54:45
  12. For the final layer, apply stencil number five and ink through with green, pressing firmly to complete the design. ▶ watch 55:30
