Acetate Window Card with Patterned Insert

Design a striking card using clear construction-weight acetate with a decorative window. The acetate creates a professional, shop-bought appearance whilst allowing patterned paper to show through, and can be embellished with fussy-cut flowers and belly bands.

Step by step

1. Remove the protective film from the acetate sheet by peeling it away carefully. ▶ watch 46:45
2. Score lines onto the acetate using a scoring tool and ruler, creating clean fold lines without cloudiness. ▶ watch 47:00
3. Fussy-cut a large decorative flower from the patterned paper collection. ▶ watch 47:15
4. Adhere the fussy-cut flower to the front of the acetate card using clear tape or liquid adhesive. ▶ watch 47:30
5. Place patterned paper behind the acetate window so the design shows through the clear area. ▶ watch 48:00
6. Curve the corners of the acetate card using scissors for a softer appearance. ▶ watch 48:15
7. Create a belly band from leftover acetate offcuts by wrapping it around the card front. ▶ watch 48:30
8. Secure the belly band at the back with tape, then add a sentiment or decorative element to the front of the band. ▶ watch 48:45
9. Add a butterfly or additional embellishment to the belly band for extra detail. ▶ watch 49:00

Tips from the show

• The construction-weight acetate scores beautifully without creating white cloudy lines like lower-quality acetate.
• Use clear tape so it remains invisible through the transparent acetate.
• Save offcuts from card-making to create coordinating belly bands, reducing waste.
