Mandala Stencil Background with Layered Ink

Create a beautiful mandala-style background using the Pearlywinks twisting stencil system. Layer different coloured inks through the stencil openings to build up a stained glass window effect with depth and dimension.

Step by step

1. Place your main stencil on your card base, ensuring it sits flat and secure. ▶ watch 15:00
2. Select your first ink colour and apply it through the stencil using a stamp pad or ink brush, working within one section of the stencil. ▶ watch 15:30
3. Twist the stencil to the next section slot and select a contrasting ink colour. ▶ watch 16:15
4. Apply the second colour through the new stencil opening, building up the layered effect. ▶ watch 16:45
5. Continue twisting and applying different colours through each section to create the full mandala design. ▶ watch 17:30
6. For added depth, go back over sections with a darker shade to create shadow areas and definition. ▶ watch 18:30
7. Allow the ink to dry completely before removing the stencil carefully. ▶ watch 23:00
8. Add a sentiment stamp or embellishment in the centre of your mandala if desired. ▶ watch 24:00

Tips from the show

• Start your brush strokes off the stencil edge rather than directly on it to avoid brush marks showing through.
• The stencil is made of 350 micron material, so it holds firmly in place without shifting.
• You can create backgrounds, build up lady figures with wings, or design butterflies using the same stencil system by selecting different sections.
