Shaped Card with Stencilled Background and Gnome Character

Create a shaped card by using a waist-free die to cut a unique card shape, then building a stencilled background with sparkly effects and adding gnome characters. The result is a festive card with an unusual silhouette and dimensional stencilled details.

Step by step

1. Take a card blank with a score line and hang a waist-free die over the hinge to create a shaped card. ▶ watch 1:17:30
2. Use a 7 by 7 stencil to apply sparkly paste around the edges of the shaped card, creating a decorative border. ▶ watch 1:18:00
3. Build up the stencilled background by using different elements of the stencil around the card edges. ▶ watch 1:18:30
4. Use a smaller waist-free die to cut a nesting shape from patterned paper. ▶ watch 1:19:00
5. Mount the nesting die-cut panel onto the shaped card base. ▶ watch 1:19:30
6. Stamp and colour gnome characters to add to the card. ▶ watch 1:20:00
7. Die cut the gnome characters and position them on the card. ▶ watch 1:20:30
8. Add a sentiment plaque or text element to complete the card. ▶ watch 1:21:00

Tips from the show

• You can overhang the die just slightly over the card hinge to create a shaped card without needing a second panel on top.
• Stencils can be used around the edges of cards rather than covering the whole surface.
