Faux Wood Panel Layered Card

Build a sophisticated card with a faux wood effect by layering and distressing coordinating paper strips. This technique creates a vintage, dimensional look perfect for adding character to your designs.

Step by step

  1. Cut paper strips of varying widths from your coordinating vintage papers. ▶ watch 37:00
  2. Arrange the strips horizontally on a card blank, creating gaps between each layer. ▶ watch 37:45
  3. Layer additional strips at different heights to build a panel effect. ▶ watch 38:30
  4. Apply ink pad colour to the edges and surface of the paper strips to add depth and texture. ▶ watch 39:00
  5. Use a fine-liner pen to draw wood grain details and rivets across the layered strips. ▶ watch 42:00
  6. Press a gel pen into the paper to create indented lines that mimic wood texture. ▶ watch 44:15
  7. Add white gel pen highlights to enhance the wood effect and create dimension. ▶ watch 45:00
