Embossed Background Card with Gilding Wax Detail

Create a textured background card using 3D embossing folders with black cardstock. Add gilding wax to the raised details for a dimensional, elegant finish that works for multiple occasions.

Step by step

1. Cut black cardstock to A2 size (approximately 5 by 7 inches). ▶ watch 18:00
2. Run the black cardstock through your die-cutting machine with the Driftwood embossing folder to create a wood texture effect. ▶ watch 19:15
3. Apply gilding wax to your fingertip and tap it onto your craft mat to pick up the colour. ▶ watch 20:30
4. Lightly swipe the gilding wax across the raised embossed details to highlight the texture. ▶ watch 20:45
5. Run the Cobbles embossing folder through your machine with black cardstock to create a brick-like texture. ▶ watch 21:15
6. Apply gilding wax to both the raised and debossed sides of the embossed cardstock for subtle or bold effects. ▶ watch 22:00
7. Run the Brick embossing folder through your machine with black cardstock. ▶ watch 22:30
8. Swipe gilding wax across the brick texture to enhance the dimensional detail. ▶ watch 23:30

Tips from the show

• Embossing folders create equal texture on both the front and back of the cardstock.
• You can use any ink pads from your stash for this technique.
• If you are not happy with the result, simply put the cardstock in the bin and try again with a fresh piece.
