Moody Reflection Background with Splatter Texture

Build a dramatic, atmospheric background using multiple ink colours and water spray, then add splatter texture with your fingers. This creates a moody sky perfect for Halloween or spooky themes.

Step by step

1. Prepare an A2 card blank or piece of white cardstock. ▶ watch 17:30
2. Spot purple ink onto a glass mat or non-porous surface. ▶ watch 17:45
3. Spray the ink puddle with water to create a wet, blended base. ▶ watch 18:00
4. Press your card into the wet ink, allowing it to drink the colour and create texture. ▶ watch 18:15
5. Add pink and blue ink to different areas of the mat, spraying with water as you go. ▶ watch 18:30
6. Dip your fingers into additional ink colours and flick them onto the card to create splatter texture and visual interest. ▶ watch 19:00
7. Set the card aside to dry completely before adding further layers. ▶ watch 19:30

Tips from the show

• Use less water if your ink is beading too much; experiment with one, two or three sprays to find the right balance.
• Different cardstock types absorb water differently, so test on various papers to see which gives the effect you prefer.
• Don't wear a white blouse when splattering ink!
