Wolf Mask Halo Effect with Layered Details

Create an artistic card using a wolf mask and stencil to build a layered effect with white and black inks. The technique creates a glowing halo around the animal and adds depth through interior and exterior layering.

Step by step

1. Place the wolf mask slightly offset on your card to create the impression that the animal is part of the scene. ▶ watch 56:15
2. Take a white ink pad and a blending brush, then dab white ink around the mask to create a halo or shadow effect. ▶ watch 56:30
3. Blend the white ink outward using a brush with minimal ink to create a soft, gradual transition. ▶ watch 56:45
4. Remove the mask and position the wolf stencil over the white halo area. ▶ watch 57:15
5. Apply black or dark ink through the stencil to darken the interior of the wolf, making the white halo pop. ▶ watch 57:30
6. Add subtle paw print details in black ink around the card using the mask or a stamp to enhance the composition. ▶ watch 58:00
7. Layer a vellum wrap with tree line details across the card for additional depth and storytelling. ▶ watch 58:15

Tips from the show

• Don't put yourself under pressure for the mask placement to be precise—slight offsets still look gorgeous.
• Use interior and exterior layering with masks and stencils to create artwork-quality effects.
• Add subtle details like paw prints that catch the eye on closer inspection.
