General Chestnut Layered Stencil Card with Stamp

Create a beautifully layered chestnut character card using five coordinating stencils and a detailed stamp. This project builds rich, dimensional colour through layering different ink tones to create a festive Christmas character with intricate detail.

Step by step

  1. Take a white card blank and line up stencil number one at the edge of the card. ▶ watch 1:17:30
  2. Apply light distress ink through the stencil using a sponge brush, working from light to dark tones. ▶ watch 1:18:00
  3. Remove the stencil and line up stencil number three, applying a medium brown tone over the first layer. ▶ watch 1:19:45
  4. Continue with stencil number four, pressing darker ink through to build depth and variation in the chestnut tones. ▶ watch 1:20:30
  5. Apply the final stencil layers, building the complete character design with all five numbered stencils. ▶ watch 1:21:00
  6. Line up the coordinating General Chestnut stamp on the stencilled design and ink it with black ink pad. ▶ watch 1:24:00
  7. Press the stamp firmly onto the card to add fine detail and definition to the character. ▶ watch 1:24:30
  8. Remove the stamp carefully and admire the layered effect created by the stencils and stamp combination. ▶ watch 1:25:00
  9. Cut out the character using the coordinating outline die to create a finished embellishment. ▶ watch 1:26:00
