Wish Upon a Star Easel Card with Decorative Edge

Create a standing easel card featuring die-cut stars with a decorative edge detail. The stars are layered with patterned paper to create dimension, and the card stands upright on a mantelpiece for display.

Step by step

1. Cut the star design from gray card stock using your die-cutting machine. ▶ watch 10:00
2. Pop out all the individual stars from the die-cut sheet and save them in a container. ▶ watch 10:15
3. Place the exterior die outline onto patterned paper and run through the machine to cut the coloured backing piece. ▶ watch 10:30
4. Score the front of your card base down the middle to create the easel stand element. ▶ watch 12:00
5. Glue the patterned paper piece (with stars cut out) to the front of the card base. ▶ watch 12:30
6. Position the grey star layer on top, offsetting it slightly to create a drop shadow effect. ▶ watch 13:00
7. Add flowers or embellishments to the top of the card for extra detail. ▶ watch 13:45
8. Attach a sentiment or washi tape message to the base of the design. ▶ watch 14:15
9. Stand the card upright to display the finished easel card with the decorative star edge visible at the base. ▶ watch 16:45

Tips from the show

• Save all the die-cut elements (stars, hearts, butterflies) in a container as you may want to paper piece them back in or cross-pollinate designs.
• The exterior die means you don't have to worry about the design cutting through halfway, giving you complete coverage.
• You can use the same concept with any of the other cover plate designs like bubbles or butterflies.
