Floating Sentiment Heart Card with Textured Background

Make a Slimline card featuring a large 3D vellum heart with a floating sentiment attached to its edge. The card uses torn and textured patterned paper to create visual interest and an elegant, vintage feel.

Step by step

1. Start with a Slimline card base in white or cream. ▶ watch 21:45
2. Cut patterned paper to size and tear the edges with scissors to create texture and a vintage look. ▶ watch 22:00
3. Ruffle the torn paper slightly with your fingers to add soft texture and mixed media effect. ▶ watch 24:15
4. Glue the textured paper panel onto the card base. ▶ watch 24:45
5. Create a 3D vellum heart using the layering technique from the previous project. ▶ watch 26:00
6. Pop the decorative star detail back into the centre of the largest heart. ▶ watch 26:15
7. Pinch and manipulate the heart layers to make them pop up proudly when the card opens. ▶ watch 26:30
8. Attach the sentiment word (such as 'Hope') to the edge of the heart using clear-drying glue. ▶ watch 27:30
9. Add sequins or other embellishments to complete the card. ▶ watch 29:00

Tips from the show

• If you want the card to fit flat in an envelope, do not use a floating sentiment technique.
• This card works well in a Slimline box rather than a standard envelope due to the 3D elements.
• Use a clear-drying glue when attaching the sentiment to avoid visible adhesive marks.
