Create a vibrant mandala-inspired background using gel plate printing techniques with layered stencil frames. This experimental project combines ink sprays in blues, purples, and pinks to produce a colourful, textured print with geometric patterns. The technique demonstrates creative ways to use Essential Frames stencils for unique printed backgrounds.
Layer multiple Essential Frames stencils on top of each other on your gel plate. Use magnets to anchor the stencils in place and keep them secure.

Spray ink in blue and pink colours over the layered stencils to create a multi-coloured base. Work across the entire surface, allowing the colours to blend naturally.

Add a small amount of water to the stencilled areas to loosen the ink slightly. This will create a more fluid, globular effect on your gel plate print.

Press white card stock firmly onto the inked gel plate to transfer the mandala design. Use your hand to smooth across the entire surface, ensuring even contact with the plate.

Wipe the gel plate clean with a baby wipe or damp cloth to remove all ink residue. The plate can now be reused for additional prints or different colour combinations.

If desired, use the stencil frames to mask off areas of your printed background. This creates crisp white borders around your design before stamping or adding further embellishments.
